Why We’re Proud to Be an Independent, Local Business
Homeowners from Potsdam down to Syracuse and Utica ask us a lot of questions about how we operate, and lately more of those questions are about ownership. That’s a good thing to ask. Private equity firms have been buying up local home services companies across the country, and the change isn’t always visible from the outside.
G.R.O. Energy Solutions is 100% local and family-owned. Let’s talk about what that means for the work we do in your home.
A Lot of “Local” Companies Aren’t Anymore
A company can keep its name, its logo, and even its trucks for years after it’s sold. What often changes first is what you don’t see: pricing decisions, staffing, and how much time gets set aside for your job.
Homeowners who have lived through a sale like this tell us the same things. Service that used to feel personal starts to feel rushed, getting the same company back for a follow-up call gets harder, and warranty questions take longer because the person answering the phone doesn’t have the history on your home anymore.
None of that shows up on a website, and nobody advertises that they were just bought out, so you’re left comparing companies on price and reviews alone. And you might end up choosing a company you wouldn’t have if you’d known more.
What You Get When a Company Stays Independent
G.R.O. Energy Solutions is not owned by or involved with private equity. The people making decisions about our business and your home upgrades live here. We’ve helped improve more than 1,000 houses in this area, and we plan to keep doing that. If you run into us at the hardware store, that’s not a coincidence. We live in this community too, and we treat our neighbors’ homes the way we’d want our own treated.
Being independent means we set our own standards. Here’s what we hold ourselves to.
We Diagnose Before We Recommend Anything
Before we recommend any work, we look at how your whole home performs, not just the drafty room you called about. Our team holds building science certifications, and we test your insulation, air sealing, ventilation, and heating and cooling as one connected system. Fix one piece without checking the others and you can create a new problem somewhere else. Because we handle the whole home, the fix we recommend is the one your house needs, not the one that happens to be on our truck.
We Put the Numbers in Writing
Your energy audit ends with a detailed energy report, not a verbal pitch in the driveway. It shows where your home is losing energy and what each recommended upgrade is projected to return, including the savings to investment ratio, so you can see which projects pay off fastest and which can wait. The report is yours whether or not you hire us.
We Help You Find Savings with Rebates, Grants, and Incentives
Most New York households qualify for something. Between NYSERDA programs like EmPower+ and Comfort Home, there’s real money available for insulation, air sealing, and equipment upgrades, and the paperwork is where a lot of homeowners give up. We handle that part, and we’ll tell you which programs you’re likely to qualify for before you commit to anything.
We Don’t Oversell the Results
Energy work makes homes more comfortable and lowers bills, but anyone promising an exact dollar figure before testing your house is guessing. Our projections come from measurements taken in your home, and we tell you what we can’t predict. If a smaller repair solves your problem, we’ll say so instead of recommending a full replacement. We’d rather earn your trust on this job than push you toward a bigger one.
We Treat Your Home Like It’s Ours
We show up when we say we will, cover floors and protect furniture while we work, and clean up before we leave. We explain what we found in plain language, not jargon. That’s the standard on every job, no exceptions.
Choosing a family-owned company means choosing people who’ll still be here for your next question. If something comes up six months from now, you’ll be calling the same company, and often the same person, who worked on your home the first time. We plan to keep serving the North Country and Central New York the way we always have, by showing up, giving it to you straight, and treating your home like it matters.
