The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) offers the EmPower+ program to assist low- and moderate-income New Yorkers with free home energy assessments and efficiency upgrades.

Who qualifies for EmPower+?

EmPower+ is designed to assist low- and moderate-income New Yorkers in improving their home's energy efficiency. To determine eligibility, several criteria must be met:

  • Income Verification - Households must fall within the income guidelines set by NYSERDA, typically at or below 60% of the state median income, verified through documents like tax returns or pay stubs.

  • Categorical Eligibility - Participation in other qualifying programs such as SNAP, HEAP or utility payment assistance can also establish eligibility.

  • Qualified Energy Provider - Households must have a qualified Energy Provider (National Grid, NYSEG, or Central Hudson).

  • Home Type - The program is available for single- to four-family homes as well as mobile/modular homes.

  • Occupancy - Homeowners, renters and landlords can qualify, with specific measures tailored to each group.

How Do I Participate In EmPower+?

To determine whether you qualify for EmPower+, visit the NYSERDA website and complete the online application form. Contact us if you need help filling out the form.
