What Makes Us Different

Too often, homeowners across the North Country call us after another contractor already came out, made a recommendation, and the problem never actually got fixed. High energy bills, a room that never gets comfortable, drafts, and humidity that won’t go away all have a specific cause, and a fix based on a guess rarely gets to it.

At G.R.O. Energy Solutions, everything we do comes down to three things: a home that’s comfortable, a home that’s safe and healthy to live in, and lower energy use that follows once we get the first two right. We get there by measuring what’s actually happening in your house before we recommend anything, and that’s what sets us apart from most other contractors in the area.

1. We Measure Before We Recommend

Finding the real cause of a comfort problem takes more than a walkthrough and a quick look around. Problems travel through a house.

A bedroom that never cools down in the summer is often a sign that conditioned air isn’t reaching that room, even when the equipment in your basement is working exactly like it should. The same goes for humidity, drafts, and rooms that feel stuffy no matter what you do.

During our free home energy audit, we test your furnace and water heater, check gas appliances for carbon monoxide, look at the gaps and cracks around your windows and doors, and use an infrared camera to see what’s happening inside your walls and attic.

We also pay attention to how air moves through the house and what that means for the air you’re breathing, since a home can be sealed up tight and still have real problems if nobody looks at the whole picture.

Three things come out of working this way:

  • The recommendation comes from what we actually measure. We can point to what we found in your home and walk you through how it led to the fix we’re proposing.
  • We can rule things out. Sometimes the answer is smaller than a full replacement, and we’ll tell you when that’s the case.
  • We look at the whole house. Your heating and cooling equipment is one part of a bigger system, so we don’t look at it on its own.

2. We Explain What We Find in Plain Language

You shouldn’t need a background in building science to understand what we found in your house. After our assessment, we walk you through it in language that actually makes sense, and give you a clear recommendation and detailed report for what to do next. If there’s more than one reasonable path forward, we’ll explain what each one solves so you can decide what fits your home.

That starts with listening. A lot of homeowners tell us no one ever really explained this process to them before, so we take the time to walk through it clearly from the start.

We’ll also meet you where your budget is. Some homeowners want to handle everything at once. Others start with the change that’ll make the biggest difference and come back for the rest later. Both are reasonable ways to get to the same place, and we’ll help you figure out which order makes sense for your house. What you’re really hiring us for is the diagnosis and the judgment about what your home needs. The equipment and materials follow from that.

3. We Re-Test the Home When the Work Is Done

Most contractors finish a job, pack up, and tell you to call if something’s still wrong. We can go back and repeat the same measurements we took at the start, so you get a real before and after on the specific numbers behind your problem.

We also check that the fix didn’t create a new issue somewhere else in the house, which can happen when one part of a home changes and nobody looks at the rest.

That leaves you with results you can actually see, a standard the job was held to, and one less reason to worry about a callback or another contractor coming out to redo the work.

Ready to Team Up With a Contractor Who Works This Way?

The right fix depends on what’s actually happening in your house, which is why we start there. G.R.O. Energy Solutions is a local, family-owned company based in Watertown, and we’ve built our reputation across the North Country, from Potsdam down through Syracuse and Utica, by working this way on every home we take on.

We’ve improved more than 1,000 homes since 2021, and our team is BPI certified and NYSERDA qualified, which holds us to real, building-science-focused standards. Most homeowners we work with also qualify for some kind of grant or rebate assistance, like Empower+ or the Comfort Home Program, and we handle all the paperwork along the way. It’s just one of the many things we do to set ourselves apart.
